HV Volendam Takes a Big Step Towards the National Title

A Crucial Victory Against Their Biggest Rival

In a packed and electric Sporthal Opperdam, HV Volendam secured a hard-fought 30-28 victory over arch-rival Aalsmeer in the first leg of the Dutch Championship Final. The result gives Volendam a valuable advantage heading into the decisive return match this Sunday.

The game was a true battle from start to finish. Both teams defended aggressively and allowed very little space, turning the match into a tactical showdown. Volendam faced an additional challenge following the injury of key player Roy Loch in the semi-finals, forcing the coaching staff to make important adjustments.

Those adjustments paid off.

El Bishry stepped up with an outstanding performance, becoming one of the standout players of the evening. Strong in defence and dangerous in attack, he continuously caused problems for the Aalsmeer defence with his pace, skill and powerful long-range shooting.

Character Under Pressure

The teams went into halftime level at 14-14, reflecting the balance of the contest. Early in the second half, Aalsmeer appeared to gain momentum, but Volendam responded with the determination and resilience that championship teams are known for.

In a physically demanding match with several injury interruptions, Volendam remained focused and disciplined. Their collective effort on both ends of the court ultimately made the difference.

The victory also marked Volendam's first win over Aalsmeer since lifting the Super Cup earlier this season, providing another boost of confidence at the perfect moment.
